Tough Beginnings
The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle of the Civil War. It was fought in Virginia, and it was a Confederate victory. During this battle, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson became famous as a Southern fighter. He got his nickname from how he fought so hard and stood like a stone wall. This battle taught both sides how long the war would take, and how much stronger each side would have to be.
