The Turning Point
The Battle of Gettysburg was the curve of the civil war. During this battle, both sides charged at each other and fought, resulting in 23,000 casualties for the North and 28,000 casualties for the South. Although this was a clear northern victory, Abraham Lincoln decided that he had to remind everyone that this was a fight over slavery; peoples' freedom. There were too many lives lost. On November, 1863, Lincoln came to Gettysburg and dedicated a portion of the field for a military cemetery, and gave a speech called the Gettysburg Address, becoming one of the most famous speeches of all time.
